Spider

Death Dreaming

Night Terrors

Alone

Spider

can you hear the children laughing
where tangled weeds grow?
teasing a spider in its web
unable to lie low

prod her here and prod her there
then prod the web above her
watch her run and try to hide
then push her out from cover

go, spider, run away
away from those upon you
away from the danger that they bring
ah, but where would you run to?

listen to their laughter, spider
directed at your pain
how do you endure it, spider?
when they leave do you remain?

see her twist and turn, children
see her thrash and writhe
see her delicate legs reach out
see her attempt to survive

look at the way see runs, children
watch the way she stumbles
look at the way she catches herself
when the web beneath her crumbles

keep your shiny body still, spider
display the beauty that they lack
a glittering sillouhette in the sun
with a scarlet stripe on your back

gather your pride, defend yourself
make a rush at their hands
show no mercy, let them feel
the grip of your tiny fangs

get, back, children, get back
from what was once your toy
until she turned against you
and robbed you of your joy

leave, children, run away
run away and hide
leave behind the tangled web
and the shiny jewel inside

For Granddad

a man undeserving
confronted by fate
eternally sleeping
while we lie awake

we lie awake wondering
about what could have been
engulfed by the memories
of good times we've seen

we spend time remembering
he who is now dead
yet we still turn our backs on
the long road ahead

hold on to what was
and never forget
for then all that seems gone
will stay with us yet

love is eternal
it can never die
let love fill the memories
and the mournful goodbye

remember, remember
remember the cheer
for the truth lies beyond
the veil of the tear

Rising

stop crying, save your tears
the past gives way to future years
be strong willed, cease your sorrow
the night will take you to tomorrow
dawn will come, the sun will rise
dry the moisture from your eyes
the dead will rest, let spirits be
the joyful morning you will see
you will only be trapped if you mourn
in the darkest hour before the dawn

see the horizon and behold
a shining sky, a shimmer of gold
see the birth of this new day
the stars and darkness fade away
the first rays of light reach this land
tumbling, flying as far as they can
an azure sky where dark did shine
standing so strong above thee and thine
banish completely the last of the night
horizon reveals the heart of the light

let sorrow fade, your spirit fly
a youthful shimmer in the sky
bathed in life a blue sky sings
the song born of your shining wings
you fly so high, your spirit's true
join the sun, the sky and the white clouds too
joy you feel, dreams you know
song you give to the smiles you show
you land for a moment and say to me
that I showed you how to set yourself free

Death Dreaming

bend rules
break rules
the difference is obscure
the meaning is lost
the meaning of what?
the deed is lost
deep in the minds
the souls, the eyes of the past
buried
buried in the black dust
grey skeletons reaching for the cold moon
reaching, reaching, reaching
dead memories
crying for dead eyes
crying, crying, crying

Night Terrors

golden gleaming
silver dreaming
scarlet screaming
in the rain

mother shaking
sleeper waking
lover hating
hide in shame

children sighing
dearest crying
china flying
darkness came

bitter sweetness
mighty weakness
lost completeness
blinded pain

terror calling
steady falling
iron soaring
gone away

dearest listens
hardly misses
scarlet glistens
greet the day

Alone

through a simple empty void
crystal stars are drifting
a mirror that can never be
laws of sanity lifting

what is life to the universe
but a cake of mud to shale?
our world is a ship that carries us
a setting sun the furling sails

is this world the only ship
on its course toward nowhere?
does the distant sun I see
have others in its care?

the universe will pass by me
then my life will follow
all my hopes and dreams become
meaningless and hollow

are there others here wth me?
were there others in the past?
am I the first or only one
on whom their spell was cast?

the universe encloses me
still my life is leaving
I become one with the void
with this eternal evening

on Earth the tall trees grow
from which the brids are calling
memories of home flash by
through empty space I'm falling

I no longer see the crystal stars
nor memories of home
my tomb a simple empty void
do I die alone?
